Ask a manager for feedback in Dutch

Practise a development conversation with your manager. The result you need is to receive two actionable improvement points. This lesson turns that one real-life task into Dutch phrases, two answer models and a recording routine.

Read the situation like the listener

A manager can give better feedback when you ask about observable work and request examples instead of a general judgement. The immediate difficulty is that you want to progress but do not know what to improve. The useful fact that changes the conversation is this: you will turn the feedback into a short action plan. Ask for a small number of priorities. Repeat the example in your own words and agree on a date when both of you will review progress.

Where: a development conversation with your manager.

Message: you want to progress but do not know what to improve.

Evidence or constraint: you will turn the feedback into a short action plan.

Agreement to reach: receive two actionable improvement points.

Six Dutch phrases and their meaning

  1. 01 Ik wil graag weten hoe u mijn werk beoordeelt.
I would like to know how you assess my work.
  2. 02 Ik wil mij verder ontwikkelen.
    I want to continue developing.
  3. 03 Welke twee punten kan ik eerst verbeteren?
Which two points should I improve first?
  4. 04 Kunt u een concreet voorbeeld geven?
Could you give a concrete example?
  5. 05 Ik maak daarna graag een kort actieplan.
I would then like to make a short action plan.
  6. 06 Zullen we over een maand de voortgang bespreken?
Shall we discuss the progress in a month?

Put the six lines in the order that best helps this listener. Record one version with essential information only and a second with one extra reason and example.

Choose information that earns a response

For this work conversation, combine a direct work message with a relevant reason and a proposal that remains workable for the other person. Avoid giving background without naming the affected shift, task, decision or follow-up date. If one Dutch word disappears, describe it more simply and continue; the listener still needs the problem, the decisive detail and a next action.

Two Dutch answer models to adapt

A2

Short request

Ik wil graag weten hoe u mijn werk beoordeelt. Ik wil mij verder ontwikkelen. Kunt u een concreet voorbeeld geven? Zullen we over een maand de voortgang bespreken?

Change the person and one practical detail before recording. Keep the request audible.

B1

Connected explanation

Ik wil graag weten hoe u mijn werk beoordeelt. Ik wil mij verder ontwikkelen. Welke twee punten kan ik eerst verbeteren? Kunt u een concreet voorbeeld geven? Ik maak daarna graag een kort actieplan. Zullen we over een maand de voortgang bespreken?

Use all six lines only when each one helps the other person decide or act.

Ask what every model sentence does. Remove anything that adds no context, reason, detail, proposal or confirmation before making your own version.

Make the task harder without changing its purpose

A2

Say why you are speaking, explain you want to progress but do not know what to improve and ask for the action contained in receive two actionable improvement points.

B1

Connect the problem to “you will turn the feedback into a short action plan”. Add a realistic alternative if the first request cannot happen.

B2

Compare two solutions through staffing, fairness, workload, development and reliability. Recognise one disadvantage and state the condition behind your choice.

Four recording rounds

  1. Round 1: Remove background that does not affect the request.
  2. Round 2: Add one measurable detail such as a date, number or time.
  3. Round 3: Name two options and state which one you prefer.
  4. Round 4: End with a summary of no more than twelve words.

Change the facts and answer again

Practise requesting feedback on meetings, written reports and customer contact, with a different follow-up period each time. This second version tests whether you can transfer the message instead of reciting it. Add one plausible listener question and answer it without restarting.

Check the outcome

  • Every sentence performs a clear function.
  • The concrete detail supports the main message.
  • My preference follows from the options I named.
  • The short conclusion does not change the request.
  • I included this required detail: you will turn the feedback into a short action plan.
  • I finished the message before correcting pronunciation.

Compare two recordings; do not turn this checklist into an official score or pass prediction. For an exam, practise the official interface, timing and instructions separately.
