Discuss working from home in Dutch
Practise a team meeting about hybrid work. The result you need is to agree on two fixed remote-work days and clear shared office days. This lesson turns that one real-life task into Dutch phrases, two answer models and a recording routine.
Read the situation like the listener
The team needs the concentration benefit, the collaboration risk, a concrete weekly pattern and a moment to review whether it works. The immediate difficulty is that remote work supports concentration but new colleagues miss informal coordination. The useful fact that changes the conversation is this: you propose Tuesday and Thursday at home with three shared office days. Acknowledge both individual focus and team support. Name exact days and a trial period so the proposal can be discussed as an operating agreement rather than a personal preference.
Where: a team meeting about hybrid work.
Message: remote work supports concentration but new colleagues miss informal coordination.
Evidence or constraint: you propose Tuesday and Thursday at home with three shared office days.
Agreement to reach: agree on two fixed remote-work days and clear shared office days.
Six Dutch phrases and their meaning
- 01 Ik wil graag vaste thuiswerkdagen bespreken.
I would like to discuss fixed work-from-home days.
At home, I work more calmly on tasks that require concentration.
New colleagues do need more support at the office.
That is why I propose Tuesday and Thursday as work-from-home days.
The whole team can be at the office on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
Could we try this arrangement for six weeks and then evaluate it?
Sort the six lines into opening, explanation and closing. Record the opening first, then add the explanation and agreement in two separate rounds.
Choose information that earns a response
For this work conversation, combine a direct work message with a relevant reason and a proposal that remains workable for the other person. Avoid giving background without naming the affected shift, task, decision or follow-up date. If one Dutch word disappears, describe it more simply and continue; the listener still needs the problem, the decisive detail and a next action.
Two Dutch answer models to adapt
Short request
Change the person and one practical detail before recording. Keep the request audible.
Connected explanation
Use all six lines only when each one helps the other person decide or act.
Mark the sentence carrying the most important fact. Build a new answer in which that fact changes while the communicative structure stays intact.
Make the task harder without changing its purpose
A2
Say why you are speaking, explain remote work supports concentration but new colleagues miss informal coordination and ask for the action contained in agree on two fixed remote-work days and clear shared office days.
B1
Connect the problem to “you propose Tuesday and Thursday at home with three shared office days”. Add a realistic alternative if the first request cannot happen.
B2
Compare two solutions through staffing, fairness, workload, development and reliability. Recognise one disadvantage and state the condition behind your choice.
Four recording rounds
- Round 1: State the request before giving background.
- Round 2: Add one cause and one visible consequence.
- Round 3: Say the same message politely but firmly.
- Round 4: Finish without notes by confirming a date or action.
Change the facts and answer again
Change the remote days, team constraint and review period, then answer a colleague who needs one additional office day for mentoring. This second version tests whether you can transfer the message instead of reciting it. Add one plausible listener question and answer it without restarting.
Check the outcome
- My opening names the subject without a long introduction.
- Cause and consequence belong together.
- Politeness does not make the request vague.
- The follow-up contains a usable time or action.
- I included this required detail: you propose Tuesday and Thursday at home with three shared office days.
- I finished the message before correcting pronunciation.
Compare two recordings; do not turn this checklist into an official score or pass prediction. For an exam, practise the official interface, timing and instructions separately.
