Report a package delivery problem in Dutch

Practise calling a delivery company. The result you need is to find where a package was actually delivered. This lesson turns that one real-life task into Dutch phrases, two answer models and a recording routine.

Read the situation like the listener

The service agent needs the status, delivery date, checks already made, order number and investigation request. The immediate difficulty is that tracking says delivered but nothing arrived. The useful fact that changes the conversation is this: the neighbours did not receive it either. Separate what the tracking system says from what you observed. Mention the mailbox and neighbours so the agent does not repeat those first checks.

Six Dutch phrases and their meaning

1. 01 Ik bel over een pakket dat ik niet heb ontvangen.
   I am calling about a package that I have not received.
2. 02 De status zegt dat het gisteren is bezorgd.
   The status says it was delivered yesterday.
3. 03 Er lag geen briefje in de brievenbus.
   There was no note in the mailbox.
4. 04 Ook mijn buren hebben niets aangenomen.
   My neighbours did not accept anything either.
5. 05 Het bestelnummer is 7314.
   The order number is 7314.

Put the six lines in the order that best helps this listener. Record one version with essential information only and a second with one extra reason and example.

Choose information that earns a response

For this shops and services conversation, identify the product or service, describe the failure and ask for a realistic remedy. Avoid repeating that the situation is bad without a receipt, order number, defect, deadline or preferred solution. If one Dutch word disappears, describe it more simply and continue; the listener still needs the problem, the decisive detail and a next action.

Two Dutch answer models to adapt

Ask what every model sentence does. Remove anything that adds no context, reason, detail, proposal or confirmation before making your own version.

Make the task harder without changing its purpose

Four recording rounds

1. Round 1: Remove background that does not affect the request.
2. Round 2: Add one measurable detail such as a date, number or time.
3. Round 3: Name two options and state which one you prefer.
4. Round 4: End with a summary of no more than twelve words.

Change the facts and answer again

Change the delivery day, order number and possible safe place; practise asking when and how the investigation result will arrive. This second version tests whether you can transfer the message instead of reciting it. Add one plausible listener question and answer it without restarting.

Check the outcome

• Every sentence performs a clear function.
• The concrete detail supports the main message.
• My preference follows from the options I named.
• The short conclusion does not change the request.
• I included this required detail: the neighbours did not receive it either.
• I finished the message before correcting pronunciation.
