Report a change of address in Dutch

Practise registering a move with an organisation. The result you need is to have the new address recorded correctly. This lesson turns that one real-life task into Dutch phrases, two answer models and a recording routine.

Read the situation like the listener

An employee needs the move date, new address, document question and confirmation that the registration exists. The immediate difficulty is that you do not know which documents are required. The useful fact that changes the conversation is this: the move takes place on the first of next month. State the move date before asking about documents. Repeat street names and numbers slowly and ask the employee to confirm the appointment or registration.

Six Dutch phrases and their meaning

1. 01 Ik verhuis volgende maand.
   I am moving next month.

   My new address is on Parkstraat.
3. 03 Ik wil de verhuizing op tijd doorgeven.
   I want to report the move on time.

Put the six lines in the order that best helps this listener. Record one version with essential information only and a second with one extra reason and example.

Choose information that earns a response

For this housing conversation, name the concrete housing issue, its effect and the access or timing needed for a workable solution. Avoid describing frustration for a long time before the listener knows what is broken, when it began or what action you need. If one Dutch word disappears, describe it more simply and continue; the listener still needs the problem, the decisive detail and a next action.

Two Dutch answer models to adapt

Ask what every model sentence does. Remove anything that adds no context, reason, detail, proposal or confirmation before making your own version.

Make the task harder without changing its purpose

Four recording rounds

1. Round 1: Remove background that does not affect the request.
2. Round 2: Add one measurable detail such as a date, number or time.
3. Round 3: Name two options and state which one you prefer.
4. Round 4: End with a summary of no more than twelve words.

Change the facts and answer again

Use a different street, move date and organisation, then practise spelling the street name and checking the recorded details. This second version tests whether you can transfer the message instead of reciting it. Add one plausible listener question and answer it without restarting.
